There is an abundance of fitness trackers and step counting bands in the market already, but if you are someone considering to purchase a flagship device and not inclined towards buying one of those bands for tracking your fitness, some of the recent good smartphones have enough to get you started with a healthier lifestyle. S Health is an app in Samsung flagship devices, and the recent version of it, in the Samsung Galaxy S6has got in a lot of improvement.

For you to become a pro user of it, and to take full advantage of the app, you will have to set it up properly. The first important point to note is — Sign up for a Samsung account, or log in to your Samsung account if you want the stats to be kept saved and synced properly. Local data can be lost when you choose to reset your device some day, but the syncing part is what will help in the long run.

But the interface is not limited to it. The only feature that works without your prompt, is the step counter. The app might be a little confusing, thus you need to tap on every corner to see what shows up.

Here, the profile section would show when you tap on the top left corner face, and that is a one-time setup where you can change the Name, Gender, Birthday, Height, Weight, and Activity level.

Tap on the Measure button and you will be guided with instructions on how to place your finger on the sensor for a proper measurement of heart rate. The same thing applies for measuring stress.

Note: Try to keep your hand at chest level, with not a very acute angle, so as to keep the blood flow normal. While the steps are counted without you having to do much, you will need to just have the Running, Cycling, Hiking, Sports toggle on the screen, just like you chose the Heart Rate button above. Before starting your run, tap on Start and you will see the following options:. Select one based on how you want to track the activity.

I personally would go with either a distance or a duration target, set at 3km, or 30 minute run. There are options to even play music before you hit the Start button. Once you are done with it, you can Stop and check in Trends section on how you are doing on regular basis. Activity in this will be checked from steps, and other activities like walking, running, etc.

Not really helpful, if I should be frank. There is a feature that lets you enter the food you had, and it counts the calorie intake. It depends on a lot of factors. Moreover, you can also have a widget on the home screen of your Galaxy S6, to check the steps without having to go to the application always. Connect with us.

Want to know more?Keeping track of your physical activities can be difficult, especially if you have a hectic lifestyle with responsibilities to constantly stay on top of. Thankfully, Samsung Health is there to help you log your workout routines, leaving you with one less thing to keep track of as you go about your busy day. Formerly S Health, Samsung's rebranded health app has become one of the most comprehensive health apps out there, and now it's available for all Android phones.

It sports advanced features like one-on-one challenges and heart rate monitoring, but its basic functionality is perhaps even more important — like any good fitness app, Samsung Health lets you record your exercises with ease, so you spend less time finagling with your device and more time working out. To get the ball rolling, open Samsung Health, hit the "Exercise" tile, then choose the type of exercise from the list provided.

From there, tap the "Basic workout" drop-down menu to choose a recording method. There are three modes to record your exercise: "Duration target," Burned calorie target," and "Basic workout. Burned calorie target pushes you to burn a set amount of calories while displaying the time elapsed. Basic workout simply records both elapsed time and calories burned. It's worth noting that other options for setting targets are available for different activities. Walking and Cycling, for example, let you set a distance target to track how far you're walking.

Bear in mind that Samsung Health doesn't track reps if you're doing a repetitive exercise like crunches or bench presses. Instead, it only records the duration of the workout along with the calories burned. That said, be sure to always hit "Pause" in between reps to more accurately log your activity. To save battery while working out, tap on the lock icon in the lower right corner to track your progress on an OLED-friendly black screen.

To stop recording at any time during the workout, tap on the "Pause" button, followed by "Stop. If you've recorded a workout that you feel was inaccurate, you can easily remove it by tapping on the logged workout within the "Exercise" tile on Samsung Health's main page, then tapping on "Delete" on the following page.

Hit "Delete" once again to confirm removal. Want to help support Gadget Hacks and get a great deal on some sweet new tech? Check out all the deals on the new Gadget Hacks Shop. Sign Up. Studies have shown that the combination of this step-counting tool and a personal target step goal is particularly effective. For overall cardiovascular health in adults, the World Health Organization recommends at least minutes of moderate activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity—exercise that increases your heart rate and breathing—per week.

One way to monitor the intensity of your activity is to check your heart rate against the estimated maximum heart rate for your age. Proper water consumption is essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Not drinking enough water can lower your physical and mental performance, and lead to dehydration.

In addition to this helpful feature, you can also manually track your exercise by type and time and review your activity levels for the past 24 hours. For any issues related to customer service, please go to samsung. For media inquiries, please contact hq.

The Future changes shape! Meet the new Samsung smartphone! I like to use health app to track various activities. However I'm disappointed that I'm unable to add exercise or activity that was not recorded by a phone or watch. I'd just like to be able to go in and retrospectively add the details for duration or from a non compatible device that did record the details.

Yes, I too have either run my Gear Fit 2 battery down or simply took it off to wash my hands and forgot to put the watch back on. I would really like to know if I can manually add steps or exercises I did in the past???? And that's it! Hope this helps and if anyone knows the best way to log 'CrossFit' rather than 'Circuit training' as XFit is way more calorie intensive then please let me know!

Samagik, thanks for the answer! However it seems like using a galaxy watch leads to different user experience. I have no menu on the top right corner when I follow the steps you described. I still found no way to add workout manually when I have no chance to ware the watch.
